About Us
Holland Rifle Club
The club was formed on 27th November 1931 with members shooting outdoors most Wednesdays & Saturdays at targets mounted on straw bales.
In July 1933 the wife of our late President Mr. A. Griggs offered the club a piece of land on which to build a range in memory of her husband.
The offer was gratefully accepted and February 1934 saw the order placed for the building work to commence. It was completed and officially opened on 29th August 1934.
It is worth noting that the land was purchased for £50-0s-0d and the building work was charged to us at £275-0s-0d. The opening ceremony was broadcast on Clacton Super Radio at a cost of ten shillings.
Apart from a break during the Second World War, when the range was taken over by Military Authorities, we have regularly shot smallbore rifle prone at 25 yards in the comfort that indoor facilities offer. There have of course been major changes in security and range safety over the years to meet revised Home Office requirements.
